Transmitting Information or Fostering Knowledge?
How do you want to transmit the ideas that matter to you, and how does your audience want to receive them?
Do you merely want to distribute "quick hits" of information, or allow for the "deep content dives" that over time can build up knowledge?
Should any particular museum's collections and exhibit approaches be so varied and deep as to allow for, and encourage, repeat visitation? Or should museums constantly alter their "surface" (through traveling exhibitions, say) to appear to be ever-changing?
Some people will say, why not do both? But can a museum really be involved in transmitting information and fostering knowledge equally well? Info-seekers are notoriously fickle, and fresh information has a limited shelf-life after all.
